This stage goes through the area known as Åkulla Beech Forest. There are 13 lovely nature reserves here containing attractive beech forest, clear lakes and dramatic slopes. Near the trail are Bexell’s talking stones, which consist of 160 stones and rock faces with names and proverbs carved into them. Öströö sheep farm is also a pleasant spot where you can have a coffee break or eat lunch while looking at the cute lambs. Regardless of whether you end your day in Ästad or Åkulla, you have the chance to treat yourself to a delicious meal in a restaurant and enjoy a hot sauna.

Accommodation
In Åkulla, there are two wind shelters with adjacent campsites. One is near Åkulla Outdoor Resort and one is about 150 metres out on an island in Yasjön, which can be reached by cable raft. The cable raft is in operation from 1 July to mid-October. In Ästad, Varberg Municipality is planning a new wind shelter that will be ready in spring 2020. Until this has been completed, hikers should turn to Ästad Vingård for overnight accommodation. For updated information, please contact Varberg Municipality.
Fishing in the Åkulla district
Björkasjön’s fish conservation area consists of three lakes: Björkasjö, Mjällsjö and Rammsjö. Here, you can fish for pike, perch, roach and eel. Rudd are mainly to be found in Lake Björkasjön. The Central Halland fish protection area consists of 11 lakes: Byasjön, Grytsjön, Humsjön, Kalvsjön, Lillsjön, Ottersjön, Rörsjön, Stegasjön, Skärsjön, Valasjön and Älvasjön. A fishing permit can, for example, be bought at Skärbäcks gård, tel.: +46 (0)340 450 05 and at Öströö Fårfarm, tel.: +46 (0)340 450 36.

About Difficulty Grading
The grading is tailored for Swedish lowland trails that adhere to the quality criteria established by the national framework for hiking trails.
Even and firm ground: The terrain is generally flat. The hike requires no need to use your hands for support. No obstacles. Bridges are always present when crossing waterways.
Uneven and/or soft ground: Some changes in elevation. Certain sections may require hand support to maintain balance. There may be obstacles such as low stiles and short stairs. Minor obstacles like stones and roots. Boardwalks are present.
Loose or slippery ground combined with steep sections: Technical parts require hand support. There may be obstacles such as high stiles and longer stairs. Frequent sections with stones and/or roots. Boardwalks with deeper surrounding water.
